Economic Benefits

While many people associate wind power with environmental benefits, the natural energy generated at Cohocton Wind provides a range of economic benefits to the Steuben County community as well, helping to keep energy projects, and the landscape, open.

  • Increased tax revenue: Tax revenue from the project could be used to lower taxes, improve schools, maintain roads and enhance services.
  • New crop for farmers: Farming is a tough business, and thousands of New York State farms have been forced to close. Cohocton Wind offers farmers a new crop—wind energy.
  • Jobs for Cohocton residents: The project hires locally whenever possible, providing construction, operations, and maintenance employment opportunities.
  • Increased use of local services: Local resources were used as much as possible during construction including personnel, gravel, trucking, lodging, gas, and food to offer new revenue to local retailers and area residents.
  • Local, sustainable power: The natural, renewable energy produced at Cohocton Wind provides power for aproximately 50,000 Northeast homes each year.
  • Reduced dependence on costly fuels: Wind energy helps reduce dependence on costly fossil fuel imports, strengthens the diversity of the nation's energy supply, and enhances America's energy independence.
